On Tuesday 3 December 2019 international day of the disabled people commemoration events has been organized in the country by the PWDs Persons with disabilities, DPOs disabled people organization and Networks in Mogadishu and other places in the regions with jubilant spectators and participants
The Somalia Disability Cluster network with cooperation of the members DPOs and other civil society organization and the UNSOM human nights protection groups organized the event which is participated sixty persons from the PWDs persons with disabilities and the non disabled people mostly human rights and development activist
The event was held in Mogadishu at the Hodan district opposite the ministry of the foreign affair which the participants exchanged their opinions and ideas about the problems facing the disabled people from the community in the social, culture, economic, development and political participation which where the main talk that overshadowed the event
There was panel discussion with three thematic focus of areas that are very important for the Somali disability and the current situation of the PWDs persons with disabilities and the DPOs the disabled people organization in the advocacy, implementation and protection legislation for the disability people
Panel question were
- Decade of the CRPD ratification advocacy
- Start point of the CRPD implementation advocacy
- National disability act
Eight question from the participation to the panelist mainly covered the
- The participation political and election
- The Participation publics service the children of the disabled families and the disabled children
- The participation of the social service and project with parent of the PWDs and DPOs
The panelist responded the question with future collaboration the sources and the best way to access the persons with disability participation of the election and beneficiary of the public good and service mostly provided by the international NGOs and the government organs
The overall participants questions and the respond from the panelist covered the acknowledgment of the decade long advocacy for the CRPD ratification in Somalia, start of the CRPD implementation advocacy jointly the civil society, DPOs, international NGOs and the government
There has been more than ten event IDD 2019 commemoration ceremonies organized in the country where more than three events organized in Mogadishu hotels and other in federal state regions with cooperation of the federal state ministries and the DPOs. Somalia government signed the CRPD this year 2019 that makes full member of the state parts of the convention.
This year the IDD international day of disabled people is different from previous years where there is more participation from the civil society and the government and federal state regional government. Unlikely before its was exclusive for the PWDs persons with disabilities and members of their families.
