two days workshop and discussion about the the role of the PWDs persons with disabilities and DPOs disabled people organization in the elections for the next parliamentarian and presidential which is supposed to take place the next two months in the country.
the first day was training capacity building for forty persons from PWDs persons with disabilities, DPOs disabled people organization, members of their families and the second day was sixty with additional twenty persons from the ministries, traditional leaders and MPs members of the parliaments
the mains course taken where citizens rights as national for the elections, leadership, participation decision making tables and organs where PWDs persons with disabilities role now is very little. most the trainees has gained more information, skill, and education about the citizens rights and role in the public and private.
this is one of the rare activities organized to strengthen the disabled people capacity for the advocacy and awareness to raise campaigns to seek greater role participation in the governmental, policy and social process underway in the country.
IEDP has distributed 8 pages ToR terms of reference deeply detailing the background of the Somalia disable people live, rights, discrimination and compare the international role and rights of the persons with disabilities where the trainees has taken the lessons in the first day 04- September 2016
Garad Ali Grad Aden the traditional leaders network head and member of the Somali traditional leaders said we see the disabled people as part of the society. we call our community the wrong actions discriminating them. they are scholars, merchants, religious expertise and politician. we should open the door for them. they can lead us better than more others we saw and served us. i would call to all traditional leades now in the hands nomination the MPs to give them quota in the new MPs. let us start new changes and make the disabled people front line and our sides in the public.
the ministry of the constitution has distributed hand book Somalia federal government professional constitution where Mr. Ahmed Sheikh Abdullahi the director of the constitution department has explained the advantage to read the book and send feed back to the ministry. and Mr. Abdihakim Mo’alim the adviser of the ministry Constitution for the technical constitutional in Somalia has provided the trainees and parts some parts of the articles in the book where they have promised to make amendment and add the role of the disabled people
Mr. Osman Haji Ali MP member of the Parliament said i really very much pleased to see this valuable event organized PWDs persons with disabilities and we member of the parliament promise to support for your demand. i don’t known disability person lost limp, sight and hearing. but its bulk man without vision and motivation doing bad thing in the community killing, raping. stealing and corrupting that who can be said disabled persons.
Mr. Mohamed AminHassan MP member of the parliament said its amazing event and work. i persons ready to support the special need people. you are our brothers and sister we will take your voice loud in the next Parliament after the election. i feel your demands are rights and you may join the Parliament variety way. the first thing we should lobby for you is adding in the constitution the role of the disabled people. not only for political participation but also developmental works in the country. now how many employee do you have in the national employees. we are very sorry to hear less than ten persons out five thousands. thanks organization prepared and the campaign disabled people revolutionary
