Somali disability cluster meeting held in Mogadishu

Normal 0 false false false EN-GB X-NONE X-NONE on Thursday 31 December 2020 the Somali disability cluster held the month meeting for the members organizations of the cluster where they have discussed the work of the member organizations representatives in the last hours of the ending year 2020. The member organization representative exchanged agenda which was the review of the 2020 cluster sessions and work the achievements and the failures for the past activity of the cluster members activities . Where most the participants presented their works in the year 2020.   Some of the participants raised question for the Somalia donors and civil society grant management and partnership discrimination against the PWDs persons with disabilities and the DPOs the disabled people organizations. Mainly the human rights, humanitarian, livelihood and development in the country funded by the international donors The cluster send message to the all stakeholders of the social, economic, development and political in Somalia to insure the implementation of the CRPD in the role the decision making time and tables.   And equal opportunity for the donors partnership civil society in Somalia. Somalia joined the CRPD member state the year 2019 after signature and ratification of the treaty in the country. Which is putting  obligations to the donors, civil society federal states and federal government of Somalia activities and work to be inclusive for all participating the PWDs and the DPOs Some members of the cluster mentioned the programs and projects implemented in the last 12 months of the year 2020. Mostly the fallowing.

1. advocacy for education and employment,

2. advocacy for legislation and laws and act,

3. participation election draft bill

4. organize demonstration for the implementation of the national disability agency

5. participation of public talks for the disability rights

6. participation of public hearing for budget management

7. training workshop for empowerment the PWDs and the DPOs,

8. awareness and outreach for the covid19

9. strengthening the DPOs and establishment of network for the disability people

10. celebration IDPD international disabled people day

11. mobilization of the Paralympics games for PWDs teams

The cluster encourage members of the DPOs the disabled people organizations stand active position in the civil society and political in the country for the interest of the nationwide Somali disability people who are more than 2.5 million as estimated . The cluster send the last message to the Somali federal government organs the execution the cabinet, the legislation and the president of the country HE Mohamed Abdullahi  Farmajo insure the finalization of the national disability agency  with consultation of the disability people, DPOs disabled people organizations and scholars Members in the meeting of the cluster underlined that the PWDs persons with disability feel discriminated and manipulated their rights by the ministry of the women and human rights who has not consulted with disability people so far the budge expenditure for the disability. There is one single concern from disability people scholars, activists and the DPOs the nomination of the 5 key leaders of the national disability agency excluded from the educated young disability people who have made progress in the education and prepared the leadership for the disability people. Finally the group issued

1. Insure inclusive for all  social and policy in the country

2. Insure the establishment active legislation and laws protecting the PWDs

3. Insure inclusive for all public and private opportunities in the country for PWDs and DPOs

4. Insure donors and civil society partnership to be inclusive for all where DPOs

5. Insure national disability policy which is serving the interest of the disability people.

6. Insure the implementation of the CRPD in the country

7. Insure the recreation and the Paralympics sport in the country
