On Monday 30 July 2018 group of disabled people representing the PWDs Persons with Disabilities and DPOs the disabled people organizations took meeting with Somalia Parliamentary Committee for Constitutional Reform and amendment where they have discussion about the role of the PWDs and DPOs in the constitution and the participation of the political and governance in Somalia.
Mr. Abdullahi from the PWDs opened and thanked to the committee members and the PWDs in the meeting table with brief report of the aim they come to the meeting and handed over documents covering the demands of the PWDs and DPOs from the committee.
Mr. Bedel from the PWDs thanked again to the committee and asked if they are not citizens with equal rights, why not our rights and roles mentioned in the constitution. We are great number in the society without legal representation in the constitution and governance.
Mr. Ahmed from the PWDs thanked to the committee members and asked to have articles mentioning the rights and power of the PWDs and DPOs in the constitution.
Mr. Sheikh Cumar thanked to the committee members mentioned lack of participation the government structure ministry, national agency and MPs from the PWDs.
Presentations, Legal expert for the Somalia Parliamentary Committee for Constitutional Reform and amendment has presented the work of the team for the constitution and the role of the persons with disabilities where he made slide presentation covering the draft work parts of the constitution articles in the last government.
Mr. Osman Sheikh MP House of the People member of the committee thanked and welcomed the PWDs for their demand, he said of course there are some disabled persons among the parliaments. Do you mean they are not representing us. No matter what every, we will take care of your demands and call to you consultation the case of the PWDs.
Mr, Hussein Sheikh Mohamud MP the Upper House Senate the secretary of the committee thanked to the PWDs for their time and welcomed their demand. As I have discussed among you before we are in work to discuss with you the PWDs and DPOs about your demands from the constitution, we know there more that needs to be solved and we will have greater discussion about the matter.
Mr. Abdi Hasan Awale the chairperson of the Somalia Parliamentary Committee for Constitutional Reform and amendment thanked to the participants of the meeting and said I have received two documents which highlights five key point I will read for you. And after that ordered the committee further consultation for the document share with them by the PWDs. He added we are here for you brothers and sisters are working the inclusion of every group in the constitution. We promise you to have further consultation for the issue with all parts concerned.
